The egregore
July 4th 2008 "A clear idea of the nature of the magical Egregore, or group form, should be built up in the mind in order that the aspirant may understand what part he plays in the whole complex scheme, and thereby may know how closely he is guided and aided in his chosen work." — Eliphas Levi, The Great Secret, 1975. Chapter 10, 'The Magnetism of Evil' (pp. 127-136) Slowly, with the passing of time, in each of our lives, our picture of the world becomes clearer. A lifetime of lessons coalesces into the snapshot of a menu that essentially becomes our main operating system. It is what we believe. The Jews are right, you know. There is no God. He’s an invention. And the Jews ought to know. They invented him. In Egypt, a ritual consolidation of thought, in fact, that actually cut off our communication with nature. The Jews continue to invent God every day, in every way, by giving you all the things you always wanted. They have created, literally and tangibly, the God you worship. This is the prison of God in which we all are poisoned. Since all human history has been recorded by human hands and human minds, how could any particle of information be anything other than a human construction? It is logically impossible. No great being has ever communicated with any prophet. No saint has ever been guided by extra-human information. No pope has ever spoken with a sanction from some divine being. These are all metaphors for something else. Call it wishful thinking. It’s all part of the human imagination. Hallucinations reproduced in reality. A metaphor constructed to anesthetize your fear of death. After all, the human imagination is limitless. Why wouldn’t we invent a surefire way not to worry about death? That way we would never have to think about what it actually means and how it undermines every action we undertake. We can figure out a way to the future that is happy instead of capitalistically predatory in the way that it is now. But we have to be real, and admit that we die, rather than insisting we have a foolproof plan for eternal life. That deliberate act of volition prevents us from accurately perceiving our own belief systems. We willingly deceive ourselves with stories we know can’t possibly be true, and too often wind up in a place we didn’t intend to go. Too many lies have been told to trust in the reputations of partisan apologists. But that’s not the worst of it. The lies we have created for ourselves as truth are now manifesting, full flower, in our own reality. The lies we have told ourselves about death are somehow being re-created in the real world, and pathological mass death is the result. Who are we killing when all those shining souls lying raped in the dust of an Iraqi bomb crater die? How much of ourselves dies, as well? And what dark shadowperson, locked in dark rituals of semiconscious consumption, looks the other way at too many junctures in his life to ever once see the eternal flashpoints that shine out from the river of love that guides our hope. Human history is only a fulfilled dream. We created a fast buck operation as often and as expediently as possible. The practice of usury has catapulted itself to the top of the fabric of human ideation. It governs what we do, in all instances. As a result, the surface of the earth has been very nearly killed by its profit-making schemes. This dominance of thought hearkens back to remnants of a savage time where force was eventually codified into law, or business agreements. The men who made the rules then still have the money now, and are using it as a hammer by which to shape the masses into ideological slaves, semiconscious serfs who do the hypnotic heroin of Fox Media and pretend real reasons for things that no longer exist, if they ever did at all. This subject matter has been totally eliminated from U.S. schools, and only a dwindling presence of discerning souls troubadouring on the Internet has been able to penetrate only onto the skin of public consciousness, but not much down into the muscle. Why? The money is just too important. Like, how exactly did those Twin Towers come down? Or, who was this Jewish anarchist named Emma Goldman who furnished the pistol that assassinated President McKinley in 1900, paving the way for the first openly Jewish U.S. president, Theodore Roosevelt. You remember. “Speak softly and carry a big stick.” World War I was not long in coming after he got in. Are you listening? Can you hear the screaming? Gently fading into a mellow Wall Street tickertape further metastasizing the commercial cancer that has taken over your whole body. The screams are the echoes of your most holy places complicit in the carnage we see everywhere — and hip to the very plot that drags us all quickly to our graves. They make a profit from your murder, you know. But you have your belief system. It keeps you safe. Whether it is really true is a matter of how good your teachers were, and whether they accurately summarized the situation we find ourselves in. The very things in which we place our belief are all part of the same treacherous semi conscious animal that is doing us harm, and actually participating in the predatory plunder of human souls for profit. Quite a belief system, eh? Well, it happens to be yours. After all, we have to be safe, and this is the product we have decided to buy. The creation of this idea became the most powerful force in human history because what we believe is what we do. Belief in an all-powerful, all-encompassing God ultimately forces you to commit criminal acts to defend your particular brand of dogma. And yet, in the dark, near life’s last moments, it is the place toward which we surely gravitate, with its promise of eternal safety. The problem this philosophy aimed to solve — and did solve, in a limited pathological way — is the very paradigm of our society’s collective self-destructive compulsion. Ritualizing slaughter, I think, is the nicest way to put it. Sanctifying the elimination of large part of humanity for the health of the herd. Isn’t that a nice phrase? What if it’s you? What kind of country do you live in? And is it a country at all? In a world about to destroy itself, to call this topic simply ‘the way things are’ is a useless thought. We have no choice but to change the way things are if we hope to survive. All the religions of the world are so null and void. Except perhaps for the Egyptian goddess Ma’at, and her Feather of Truth. Religions aim to salve a wound that can’t be healed, except with a lie. This wound was not meant to be healed. It is the condition of our existence. It’s a matter of coping with our own internal terror. And the rule is ... never fear what you may not avoid. Fully realizing your own circumstances certainly helps you understand the limitations of others. They are the same as your own. You can’t just exterminate the aberrant. They are the very soul of our species, the report card, if you will, of our existence. They constantly remind us what went wrong. But we are being molded into robots, no longer permitted to see what the real joys of life actually are, or for that matter, who the real people are. Warped into a technological singularity that regards faith, hope and charity as mere commodities to put on sale at Wal-mart. We let those all those people die so we could continue our treadmill to capitalistic paranoia and spend our lives working to pay our rent checks. The process gives us the cancer that is destroying the planet. Nobody talks about it. In fact, many believe President George W. Bush actually communicates with God. It may well be true, given what Almighty God — and especially Almighty G-d — are on the record as having said. ••• If the servitor gains enough power it can become an egregore, independent from the will of its creator. — Levi, op. cit ••• From http://www.mcs.net/~alchemy/eso_1.html: What is an egregore? It is the psychic and astral entity of a group. All members of a group, a family, a club, a political party, a religion or even a country, are psychically included in the egregore of the organization to which they belong. Of course, each of us belongs to several egregores at once. An egregore actually grows by drawing support from the members which constitute it who, in turn, through their repeated actions vivify it, somehow helping it to maintain its power. For a beginner, this is where the danger lies, all the more because of the tendency of man to seek protection, the price of which is often a loss of freedom. http://www.servantsofthelight.org/knowledge/butler_egregore.html It may best be defined as a "collective group mind", in both its conscious and subconscious aspects, which is formed by the united thinking and feeling of a number of like-minded people. From the inner point of view, we may see it as a composite thought-form charged with emotional energy. This energy is evoked from all those who are linked with the thought-form and, if there are those in the group who know something of the psychic mechanism involved, it can be directed upon any chosen target. (He said ... “it can be directed upon any chosen target.”) It is obvious that such energy can be used for good or evil purposes, the intention of those who manipulate the energy within the collective thought-form determining the way it is directed. As a general rule, the thought-form is built around some person or group of persons, and as the numbers admitted increase, so the power and range of the Egregore increases, and a peculiar reciprocal action takes place. Each member of the group pours energy into the collective thought-form but, equally, into each member there also passes the influence of the group as a whole. This reverse action brings to light certain problems. It is increasingly apparent to those outside the group that any member of it is being influenced to some degree by the pressure of the collective thinking of all linked with it, and unless care is taken, the power of independent thought may be reduced. For many people this is something they actually seek, they may feel inadequate in the everyday world and feel that by being linked in this way, they are protected from against what they see as aggressive tendencies from other people. Or again, they may feel inadequate to deal with new ideas and situations and feel that the Group mind will do their thinking for them, and they will not be in danger of wrong thinking. http://www.mystae.com/streams/scripts/egregor.html The word also appeared in The Magical Philosophy, by M. Denning and O. Phillips, Llewellyn Publications, 1978, Vol.. IV, pp. 92-3, 95: "That deep level of racial and archetypal egregores...is termed the Collective Unconscious..." (.p.92) Eliphas Levi, The Great Secret, Thorson Publishers Ltd., 1975. Chapter 10, 'The Magnetism of Evil' (pp. 127-136) has a multitudinous array of egregors (spelt without an "e"): Levi refers to the powers of nature and the cosmos as egregors. "These colossal forces have sometimes taken a shape and have appeared in the guise of giants: these are the egregors of the Book of Enoch." (p. 127). Levi later claims, discussing the planets; "...governed by those genii which were termed the celestial watchers, or egregors, by the ancients." (p. 129) http://www.mystae.com/streams/scripts/egregor.html From http://www.barbelith.com/topic/18444 An egregore is a magic(k)al entity that functions with its own will, explicitly a human creation, rather than an inherent archetype or psychic representation. It is given life by the intent of its creator and is initially designed to fulfill a certain goal. This is typically the role of a servitor as a servant to its master. But if the servitor gains enough power it can become an egregore, independent from the will of its creator. It takes on a life of its own. ••• Satire and cultural appropriation are indicators that a meme has grown beyond the scale of its original intent. As it passes through more and more heads its identity expands further into the global mind. As the egregore yields more of its identity to the mass culture, it grows beyond the control of its servants. They must simply respond and adapt to the consumer climate. There is a subtle feedback loop here. The egregore influences culture, which in turn sets greater demands on the egregore and its product. Brand association with genres, lifestyles, and cultural identity bring meaning and depth to the inherent soullessness of the corporate egregore. It’s power grows as it occupies more bandwidth in memespace, and as it clothes itself in emotional aggregates, feeding on dreams & desire. As pop culture evolves, so too will the masks of the egregore, enlisting celebrities and popular trends to peddle its product. Even after the inevitable demise of its material foundation, the egregore lives on as a relic of antiquity - a memory of pop culture. http://lkwdpl.org/wildideas/archegre.html "The egregors that are created unconsciously, and in fits of passion, live only to destroy, giving birth to instincts of power and domination inside their members. They are the true cause of war and of the conflicts pitting everyone against everyone else.... As soon as an egregor causes blood to flow in any manner whatsoever it soils its inner light with an instinctive power and becomes a negative force of domination." — Olivier Manitara, from 'The Egregor of the Dove and the Triumph of Free Peace' "Worship me!" cries the Egregora. "I am the son of God; you are nothing but a worthless and sinful creature, damned from birth and destined to hell were it not for my sacrifice; and without me you will never reach heaven!" — Marcelo Ramos Motta, from 'Letter to a Brazilian Mason Unexpurgated' "Because if one classifies the Mystical Church, the Body of Christ, Freemasonry and Buddhism as egregores, i.e. as 'artificial beings generated by devotion, enthusiasm and fanaticism,' why not consider God also as an egregore?" - from Meditations on the Tarot "Satan is not an actual discarnate, sentient being, but is more than just a symbol. Satan is, at the very least, today's most powerful magic(k)al egregore." - Diane Vera, from 'Intro to Satanism' "A metabeing specializes or tailors the generic constructs and data structures of general and specific intelligences to its environment. That is, it defines a shared worldview; it names emotions and responses; it provides models by which its individual participants can understand themselves and their world. In so doing, the metabeing performs a function too large and complex to be done by an individual in a single incarnation. However, the worldview provided by the metabeing can overconstrain the evolving individual." - Deb Bodeau, from 'Metabeings and Individuals: Aids and Obstacles to Growth' An egregore is a discarnate metabeing. Try telling it to a dead Iraqi that it isn’t real. "An egregore has the characteristic of having an effectiveness greater than the mere sum of its individual members. It continuously interacts with its members, influencing them and being influenced by them. The interaction works positively by stimulating and assisting its members but only as long as they behave and act in line with its original aim. It will stimulate both individually and collectively all those faculties in the group which will permit the realization of the objectives of its original program. If this process is continued a long time the egregore will take on a kind of life of its own, and can become so strong that even if all its members should die, it would continue to exist on the inner dimensions and can be contacted even centuries later by a group of people prepared to live the lives of the original founders, particularly if they are willing to provide the initial input of energy to get it going again." — Gaetan Delaforge "By calling up 'bogus' ancestors from Moses via Solomon to Dr. Faustus and St. Germain, the magician not only reinvents his own history, he also is summoning up the egregore of these 'entities' (along with all their powers and inhibitions of course) - or, to put into Mr. Sheldrake`s terminology, their morphic fields." Fra.: U.D., from 'Notes on the role of the historical Egregore in modern Magic' "The egregore is a group spirit that serves to remind the initiate of his or her goals. It informs and guides the individual and it protects the living chain of brotherhood. The living chain of brotherhood is entered into when a Setian performs a rite of their own creation intended to protect and enhance the Temple of Set. The egregore protects the brotherhood by letting them know their enemies are there. A symbolic representation of the egregore is used to maintain a link to the Prince of Darkness." — Sir Ormsond IVth, from: 'Saturnian Principles' The Egregore is Rothschild, who created a people whose consciences didn’t recognize the very purpose of our being here, which is to nurture everything; not control it, and kill it. For more than 200 years, Rothschild has been the king of the Sanhedrin, the council of rabbis that runs the revolution, and from this position, has gathered virtually all of the world’s wealth beneath the dark majesty of his worldwide network. This penetrates deeper into yourself than you currently comprehend, to put it mildly. The Egregore is the collective, ritualized fear of death that psychologically coerces us into accepting provably insane assertions as a desperate hedge against the prospect of everlasting darkness after death. That thought of the darkness has always been simply too much to bear, but really, reveals the emptiness of the entire evolution of establishment faith machines. The Romans worshipped Fortune, and capitalism evolved from that, before the principle of fair pricing between workmen got deliberately strangled by the middlemen, who glean their principal profits from criminal activity that is always hidden behind laws they have created. Fortune failed us, because it ultimately had no purpose, other than ripping other people off. This is what we desperately need to understand right now. The shadow of the egregore limits our perceptions and poisons our consciousness.
