Then these from Edna Spennato in Brazil.

Dear EH members and participants in our most recent group healing events...

As promised, a compilation of info with the latest news about the oil disaster in the Gulf.

I think it is important for us to reman well-informed, while at the same time maintaining our own internal state of balance, and not going into fear and anxiety. Not always easy, especially when the news is not good!

I'm including many links below, but don't be intimidated by the sheer volume, as it's easy to just scan down and read the items that interest you. I don't necessarily agree with the point of view in all of these pieces, but still find them worth reading to get the big picture, and think it's more helpful to include a wide range of material and viewpoints ..

Lots of love

US prepares for the worst after best hope of oil solution falls apart

The Gulf of Mexico oil spill is the worst environmental catastrophe that the US has ever faced, the White House conceded yesterday, as it warned Americans to be prepared for oil and gas to keep leaking into the ocean for almost three more months.

It's Official - Another BP Failure - Efforts To End Flow From BP Well Are Over, Coast Guard Says

BP Plc has given up trying to plug its leaking well in the Gulf of Mexico any sooner than August, laying out a series of steps to pipe the oil to the surface and ship it ashore for refining, said Thad Allen, the U.S. governments national commander for the incident.

Undersea robots began sawing away damaged pipe today, preparing for the first of those attempts, Allen said today at a press conference in New Orleans. The new strategy, which is subject to disruption by tropical storms and hurricanes, will continue until relief wells being drilled can plug the damaged well from the bottom, he said.

That will happen no earlier than August. BP on May 30 said its top kill attempt to plug the well with mud and rubber scrap had failed.

Oil crisis threatens more US states

Oil gushing out of a BP well in the Gulf of Mexico could spread and threaten two more US states, forecasters have warned.

Louisiana's wetlands and fishing grounds have been the worst hit so far by the spill, but the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said on Monday that winds this week may start moving oil closer to the Mississippi and Alabama coasts.

BP Oil Leak May Last Until Christmas in Worst Case Scenario

June 2 (Bloomberg) -- BP Plcs failure since April to plug a Gulf of Mexico oil leak have prompted forecasts the crude may continue gushing into December in what President Barack Obama has called the greatest environmental disaster in U.S. history.

BPs attempts so far to cap the well and plug the leak on the seabed a mile below the surface havent worked, while the start of the Atlantic hurricane season this week indicates storms in the Gulf may disrupt other efforts.

The worst-case scenario is Christmas time, Dan Pickering, the head of research at energy investor Tudor Pickering Holt & Co. in Houston, said. This process is teaching us to be skeptical of deadlines.

Big Spat on Rig Preceded Explosion

More details emerged Wednesday about a disagreement between employees of rig operator Transocean Ltd. and oil giant BP PLC over how to begin shutting down the well just hours before it exploded in the Gulf of Mexico last month.

Testimony on Wednesday about the disagreement, in a hearing held by the U.S. Coast Guard and the Minerals Management Service, which jointly regulate offshore drilling, was likely to bring increased scrutiny to the decisions BP made aboard the rig the day of the explosion, April 20.

There was also likely to be more focus on whether Transocean should have done more to ensure proper procedures were carried out.

Douglas H. Brown, Transocean's chief mechanic on the Deepwater Horizon rig, said key representatives from both companies had a "skirmish" during an 11 a.m. meeting on April 20. Less than 11 hours later, the well had a blowout, an uncontrolled release of oil and gas, killing 11 workers.

Well to leak oil at least until August, BP says

Mon, 31st May 2010

The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is the worst in the US history. British Petroleum says its blown-up oil well in the Gulf of Mexico is going to leak until August, as the company's efforts to cap the spill have all failed.

"There's no doubt that the ultimate solution lies on the relief well, which is in August," said BP Chief Executive Tony Hayward on Sunday as he toured the Louisiana fishing hub of Venice, largely idled by the spill.

Hayward said BP needs "to be in the mind-set of containment in the sub-sea, containment on the surface and defending the shoreline, in a very aggressive way."

The so-called "top kill" method employed by BP to contain the gushing well by pumping mud and other heavy fluids into the shaft of the well, has turned to be inefficient.

The London-based oil giant says it is considering yet another technique to stop the flow of oil...

Anger rises in US over oil spill

Mon, 31 May 2010

The Gulf of Mexico oil spill is now regarded as the worst environmental disaster in US history.

Anger and despair is building in the United States over the government's inability to contain an out-of-control oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

On Sunday, hundreds of people gathered in New Orleans, protesting against British Petroleum (BP) and President Barack Obama's administration after yet another massive plan to cap the gushing oil failed.

The demonstrators, who trampled on British flags and carried signs reading "BP kills", asked the US government to do more to save the Gulf Coast.

This is while, only a day after BP's so-called "top kill" procedure ended in failure, the giant oil company rushed to carry out yet another high risk method to capture the leaking oil.

The plan called "lower marine riser package" operation, involves robot submarines cutting the leaking pipe, placing a cap over it and then pumping the oil to the surface.

However, the British company's chief operating officer, Doug Suttles, refused to give any guarantees that the procedure would work...

'Top Kill' Fails to Deal with Oil Spill

30/05/2010 With the failure of "top kill", BP's latest attempt to stop oil spewing from a busted pipe in the Gulf of Mexico, residents of Grand Isle, the last inhabited barrier isle in Louisiana braced for slick-related problems for awhile to come.

BP announced earlier Saturday that its "top kill" effort to stop oil gushing into the Gulf had failed....

BP to Try New Way to Cap Oil Leak

BP will now attempt to place a box over the seafloor pipe to capture the oil and pump it to the surface.

THE GIST

* The pipe will be sawed off before the small cap is put into place by undersea robots.

* Meanwhile, oil continues to gush from the broken oil pipe.

With BP declaring failure in its latest attempt to plug the uncontrolled gusher feeding the worst oil spill in U.S. history, the company is turning to yet another mix of risky undersea robot maneuvers and longshot odds to keep crude from flowing into the Gulf.

Six weeks after the catastrophe began, oil giant BP PLC is still casting about for at least a temporary fix to the spewing well underneath the Gulf of Mexico that's fouling beaches, wildlife and marshland.

A relief well that's currently being drilled - which is supposed to be a better long-term solution -- won't be done for at least two months. That would be in the middle of the Atlantic hurricane season, which begins Tuesday....

Energy expert: Nuking oil leak only thing we can do

BP 'totally in charge of the news' about oil leak, energy expert says

As the latest effort to plug the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico meets with failure, the idea of nuking the immediate area to seal the oil underground is gaining steam among some energy experts and researchers.

One prominent energy expert known for predicting the oil price spike of 2008 says sending a small nuclear bomb down the leaking well is "probably the only thing we can do" to stop the leak.

Matt Simmons, founder of energy investment bank Simmons & Company, also says that there is evidence of a second oil leak about five to seven miles from the initial leak that BP has focused on fixing. That second leak, he says, is so large that the initial one is "minor" in comparison.

Simmons spoke to Bloomberg News on Friday, before BP announced that its latest effort to plug the leak, known as the "top kill" method, had failed.... (video clip)

The traditional lands of the Hopi people are not far from the Gulf Coast.

Hopi Prophecy: "This is the Seventh Sign: You will hear of the sea turning black, and many living things dying because of it."

Oil Apocalypse Foreseen By Credo Mutwa, Hopi Indians

Zulu Shaman, or Sanusi, Credo Mutwa

In a stunning revelation, Credo Mutwa is reported to have foretold the Gulf oil disaster four months before it happened. In a notice sent out from a conference he was addressing he implies a coming oil apocolypse before 2011. However, he would not elaborate, much to the frustration of the attendees.

Following is the message that was reportedly sent from the conference.

"Credo Mutwa apparently just now said half the world's population won't see 2011 at a gathering where I'm attending.

Some delegates have walked out because he didn't want to give an acceptable explanation, he just said " it's no asteroid, comet, plaque, ... just OIL."

The Hopi Prophecies Also Foresaw "The Sea Turning Black"

Famous for their accurate depiction of the damaging onslaught of "civilization" on their lands, the Hopi prophecies distinctly describe oil pollution of the seas. It is the seventh prediction in this poignant video. How big will the black spectre grow?...

A very unfunny situation..... but here is some humour anyway...

Bin Laden Says Hes Professionally Envious of BP

Ive Got to Step Up My Game, Says Madman

THE BOROWITZ REPORT In a new video that is light on his usual threats but heavy on admiration, Osama bin Laden admits that he is professionally envious of oil giant BPs massive oil spill, saying that it puts his efforts to create destruction and chaos to shame.

There are times in an evildoers life when one has to stand back and admire a job well done, Mr. bin Laden says in the video. BP, you blow me away.

The Al-Qaeda mastermind adds that his first thought upon seeing BPs spill was, Man, Ive got to step up my game.

Mr. bin Laden claims in the video that he rarely feels envious towards other evildoers, but says he likes to use that energy to push myself to be the best terrorist I can be.

As for the envy he felt after seeing BPs handiwork, the madman says, I havent felt this way since the whole Toyota thing.

Ten Things You Need (But Don't Want) To Know About the BP Oil Spill

May 29, 2010

How the owner of the exploded oil rig has made $270 million off the disaster, and nine other shocking, depressing facts about the oil spill.

It's been 37 days since BP's offshore oil rig, Deepwater Horizon, exploded in the Gulf of Mexico. Since then, crude oil has been hemorrhaging into ocean waters and wreaking unknown havoc on our ecosystem -- unknown because there is no accurate estimate of how many barrels of oil are contaminating the Gulf.

Gulf oil spill: real disaster might be lurking beneath the surface

New research suggests that huge plumes of oil might be spread at all levels of the water column, showing how much scientists don't yet know about the complex Gulf oil spill.

From the first moments that the Deepwater Horizon oil rig sank last month, it has been apparent that the blooming Gulf oil spill has been an oil disaster unlike any other. But the full truth of that statement is perhaps only now beginning to become apparent.

The oil that can be seen from the surface is apparently just a fraction of the oil that has spilled into the Gulf of Mexico since April 20, according to an assessment the National Institute for Undersea Science and Technology. Significant amounts of oil are spreading at various levels throughout the water column, says the report, which was posted online a week ago but first published by The New York Times Saturday.

The research, combined with other emerging data, could fundamentally alter researchers understanding of the oil spill. It suggests that vastly more oil than previously reported could be spilling from the wellhead and the attached riser pipe that now lies crumpled on the seafloor like a kinked and leaking garden hose.

Moreover, it suggests that serious environmental degradation could take place in the open ocean, creating massive dead zones where no creature can live because of the lack of oxygen in the water. The spread of oil at all levels of the Gulf also could become a concern for shore communities in hurricanes, which stir up the water column as they come ashore.

Scientists looking at video of the leak, suggest that as many as 3.4 million gallons of oil could be leaking into the Gulf every day 16 times more than the current 210,000-gallon-a-day estimate, according to the Times....

VIDEO: Hiding the Truth: White House Allowed BP to Keep Video of Gushing Pipe from Public for Three Weeks

by Michael Whitney

May 16, 2010

The White House allowed BP to hide its video feed of a gushing oil pipe in the Gulf of Mexico from the public for three weeks, all the while that same video played live in the White House Situation Room, ABC reports.

This startling revelation comes just as Obama prepares to get really angry in public about the spill just in time to cover up his administrations collusion with BP to hide the true extent of the massive disaster in the Gulf.

The Cover-up: BP's Crude Politics and the Looming Environmental Mega-Disaster

Written by Wayne Madsen
Thursday, 6th May 2010 16:43

WMR has been informed by sources in the US Army Corps of Engineers, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and Florida Department of Environmental Protection that the Obama White House and British Petroleum (BP), which pumped $71,000 into Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign -- more than John McCain or Hillary Clinton, are covering up the magnitude of the volcanic-level oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico and working together to limit BP's liability for damage caused by what can be called a "mega-disaster."

Obama and his senior White House staff, as well as Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, are working with BP's chief executive officer Tony Hayward on legislation that would raise the cap on liability for damage claims from those affected by the oil disaster from $75 million to $10 billion. However, WMR's federal and Gulf state sources are reporting the disaster has the real potential cost of at least $1 trillion. Critics of the deal being worked out between Obama and Hayward point out that $10 billion is a mere drop in the bucket for a trillion dollar disaster but also note that BP, if its assets were nationalized, could fetch almost a trillion dollars for compensation purposes. There is talk in some government circles, including FEMA, of the need to nationalize BP in order to compensate those who will ultimately be affected by the worst oil disaster in the history of the world....

Third Oil Leak in Gulf

May 29, 2010

The New York Times today says BPs Top Kill attempt to plug the hole from the exploded Deepwater Horizon oil rig has failed. Meanwhile, scientists have found a third oil leak/plume.

From Washingtons Blog:

AP reported on May 27th that scientists had found a second giant plume deep under the water. The plume is 22 miles long and 6 miles wide.

Today, May 28, the Washington Post is reporting that a third giant underwater plume has been discovered...

Scientists find vast unreported oil leak from Deepwater Horizon

BP video shows oil and gas gushing 5,000 feet below the sea's surface

A plume of oil 10 miles (16km) long, three miles wide and 300ft thick is pouring into the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico from the ruptured Deepwater Horizon oil rig.

The plume is one of a number that scientists have found gushing into the sea a mile underwater, increasing concerns that the size of the spill could be thousands of times larger than has been previously calculated, according to The New York Times.

Theres a shocking amount of oil in the deep water, relative to what you see in the surface water, said Samantha Joye, from the University of Georgia, who is involved in one of the first scientific missions to gather information from the spill. Theres a tremendous amount of oil in multiple layers, three or four or five layers deep in the water column, Dr Joye told the newspaper.

Iran renews offer to help on US oil spill

Sun, 23 May 2010

The National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) has renewed its offer to assist the US in reining in an ecologically disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Mehran Alinejad, the head of special drilling operations at NIDC, pointed to the experience gained by Iranian experts in containing huge oil leaks during the eight-year Iraqi-imposed war in the 1980s, and said, "Iranian technical teams have had major achievements in oil well capping and the Gulf of Mexico oil rig is not a great feat in comparison."

...Washington, which has been pressing on with a campaign to impose a fourth round of tough UN sanctions against Tehran over its nuclear program, has yet to respond to the Iranian offer....

But rather than swallow their pride and accept the assistance they so desperately need to put an end to this oil disaster which is going to devastate the world's oceans, what are Obama and company focused on?

and...Pentagon Plan to Beef Up Afghan Base Near Iran May Rile Regime

A U.S. plan to upgrade its airbase in southwestern Afghanistan just 20 miles from Irans border will likely rile the Islamic regime, bolstering suspicions the West is trying to pressure it with military might, analysts say.

The Defense Department is requesting $131 million in its fiscal year 2011 budget to upgrade Shindand Air Base so it can accommodate more commando helicopters, drone surveillance aircraft, fuel and munitions.

Plans to expand the base come as the U.S. works to strengthen the militaries and missile defenses of allies in the region and presses at the United Nations for a new round of sanctions aimed at forcing Iran to curb its nuclear program.

U.S. military officials say the base is only to support U.S. and Afghan military operations in Afghanistan. Iran will likely view the Shindand buildup as another step to squeeze it...

BP calls in Costner's $26m vacuum cleaners to mop up huge oil spill

Video about it at this link: http://eclipptv.com/viewVideo.php?video_id=11954

The 'Waterworld' star has spent 15 years developing a device to separate oil from sea water and it is now being put to work

Desperate times call for desperate measures. So with hundreds of thousands of gallons of oil still spewing into the Gulf of Mexico each day, and its corporate image starting to resemble the tar-covered sea creatures now washing on to Louisiana's fragile shoreline, BP has called on Kevin Costner to help stave off environmental Armageddon.

The Hollywood star has been bobbing around the Mississippi Delta helping representatives of the British oil firm and US coastguard test-drive a stainless steel device called the Ocean Therapy. In a claim which sounds as unlikely as the plot premise of Waterworld, he says it can quickly and efficiently clean oil from tainted sea water.

Bizarrely, Costner may be on to something. The actor has spent 15 years and roughly $26m (18m) of his personal fortune developing the patented machine with the help of his elder brother Dan, a scientist. It works like a giant vacuum cleaner, sucking up dirty liquid and then using a high-speed centrifuge to separate it into oil, and heavier water....

Why BP Refuses To Stop Using Chemical Dispersants

Do you wonder why BP refuses to stop using the chemical dispersants the EPA ordered BP to stop using?

I'll tell you why:

BECAUSE THOSE DISPERSANTS KEEP THE OIL UNDERWATER - AWAY FROM THE NAKED EYE AND SATELLITE VIEW.

Says who?

Scientists studying the massive underwater oil plumes. Some of the oil plumes are over 30 foot deep and 26 miles long. One scientists said about using dispersants on oil: "You don't want to put soap into a fish tank," Hollander said.

This discovery seems to confirm the fears of some scientists that -- because of the depth of the leak and the heavy use of chemical "dispersants" -- this spill was behaving differently than others. Instead of floating on top of the water, it may be moving beneath it.

Oilpocalypse Now Take I
This is really the bottom line. We have an event in the Gulf which has now stretched on for more than 5 weeks which is emptying toxins into the ocean and the atmosphere at a cataclysmic rate. In looking at the problem I am trying to anticipate its likely effects and consequences. Looking at the Gulf Oil catastrophe how does that affect the planetary system? Our oceans have been called the cradle of life and much of life on earth remains dependent on those oceans. If you disrupt the ocean system you disrupt, indirectly, life everywhere. The gushers have not yet been stoppered and there is currently no realistic prospect that they will be anytime soon.

Obama is obviously bought and paid for and the Feral Government's incompetent and even obeisant response to BP's actions and inactions is clearly obvious to anyone who cares to look honestly.

The environmental damage is at this point hard to calculate. Most people seem to be thinking too small - just in terms of its affect on the Gulf. This is not going to be contained to the Gulf. Yes, the Gulf is going to become a massive "Dead Zone" but as the oil spreads out on the Gulf stream it is going to begin to have an impact on larger and larger areas.

As is frequently the case people are reluctant, and even blind, to looking at a very large problem on the correct scale. The volume of oil and gas coming out of those holes is beyond the normal scale of human catastrophes. If not contained relatively soon this is potentially an Extinction Level Event. The one unknown variable is the volume of oil in the pool that has been ruptured. Based on the evidence and speculations I have read it is most likely to be measured in the TRILLIONS of gallons.

The best expert estimates I have seen are that minimally we have 2.9 MILLION GALLONS of Oil escaping into the Gulf each day. The volume of methane is about treble that. BP, in an effort to camouflage its true scale is pumping hundreds of thousands of gallons of even more toxic oil dispersant into the volcano. To get an idea of the scale think of the largest stadium you know, fill it with oil every day, dump it on the surrounding landscape, and then refill it TWICE each day. Then you begin to get an approximation of the volume of oil escaping.

Most people are aware of the toxic nature of petroleum, but are not used to thinking in terms of gases. Methane, in the ocean, replaces oxygen and carbon dioxide in the water. Fish and Mammals require oxygen and the plant life requires carbon dioxide for normal metabolism. Remove that by replacing it with a toxic gas, and methane is a poison, and you have a result that is a toxic cloud unseen creeping through the Gulf killing both plant and animal life. And it is growing at a catastrophic rate each day.

Most people are aware of the Amazon Rain Forest and what that plant life means to the production of breathable Oxygen. However, most people are unaware that the oceans produce 50 to 70 percent of the available free oxygen. This is done by ocean plant life mostly in the form of what is known as Phytoplankton. Phytoplankton are small, often single cell, micro plants that form the base of the ocean food chain. Phytoplankton takes dissolved carbon dioxide and minerals from the sea water, and with the input of energy in the form of sunlight, through photosynthesis they create cellular matter which is then consumed by the next higher level of the food chain and on and on with the larger consuming the smaller until you reach the top of the food chain.

So, why the lecture on the ocean ecosystem? Because the Gulf produces as much or more oxygen than the entire Amazon Rain Forest. Let that sink in for a moment. Try to wrap your mind around that scale, and then realize that the Gulf is only part of the picture - more on that in a moment. As the cloud of death in the form of toxic petroleum and methane permeates the gulf things are going to begin to die. And the cloud of petroleum also reduces the amount of sunlight reaching the phytoplankton thus inhibiting photosynthesis. So, even before it dies from the toxins in the water its metabolism is going to be slowed by the unnatural shade and its consumption of carbon dioxide and output of free oxygen will be inhibited...

Purposely Killing The Gulf?

The private, foreign International Monetary/Banking Cartel controls its puppets in Washington as it controls its oil company executives. And everything the Cartel does is anti-life, there are absolutely no exceptions; and their pretended Gulf oil clean-up is a glaring case in point.

Instead of cleaning up the unprecedented catastrophe created by the Cartel's mega-corporations (Halliburton, Transocean, and British Petroleum), these very same companies seem to be purposely killing our Gulf of Mexico, under the pretense of cleaning it up.

Instead of using safe, non-toxic ways to gather up the rogue oil gushing from their incompetence, or planned cataclysm, the private Cartel is using an extremely toxic chemical dispersant, with the approval of the Obama administration.

Alan Levine, the head of Louisiana's Department of Health and Hospitals, said: "We don't have any data or evidence behind the use of these chemicals in the water. We're now basically using one of the richest ecosystems in the world as a laboratory."...

Corexit 9500, four times more toxic than crude oil, is one of the most poisonous dispersants ever developed, and is up to 20 times more toxic than other dispersants, and only half as effective.

When Corexit 9500, with its 2.61 ppm toxicity level, is combined with the warm waters of the Gulf much of it will transition into a gaseous state that will be absorbed into clouds, to be released as toxic rain upon all of the Eastern United States: All without any effective or real objections from the Obama administration....

GULF OIL SPILL COULD HAVE BEEN SEALED IN 8 HOURS ANYTIME

...The DEEPWATER HORIZON sinking caused twisted 21 inch riser piping to start leaking in three places at 5,000 feet in the Gulf Seabed. Sadly the proven methods to STOP THE LEAK still have not been used since 042010 until today at 052010 for reasons unknown. BP, Governor of Florida and Governor of LA were all given, along with the President, the Counter Pressure Plug information from a UK inventor Branko R. Babic as he invented same in 1991 for Kuwait Oil Fires above the ground and they will work underwater with ROV welding special thick steel tubes with washers to be welded to the interior while the tubes allow full flow of gas, oil, water through tubes into the gulf.

ROV's can be used to WELD UNDERWATER the 5 inch thick washers compressed with thick rubber washers against the inside pipe sealing off all leaking oil, gas and water while the straight through pipe could take the contents flowing through to the TOP of the sea into barges. Keep in mind the CPP with flow pipe has a BALL VALVE wheel operated to shut down the flow and BP could then try to seal the BOP stopping the leak entirely....

BP And The Administration - Lies, Deceit, And Coverup In The Gulf

By Stephen Lendman

From the start, Obama administration and BP officials lied and deceived the public about the Gulf spill's severity, BP CEO Tony Hayward saying (on May 18) its environmental effect will be "very modest," when, in fact, it's already catastrophic, spreading, causing long-term or permanent ecological destruction over a vast area, will likely persist for months, and, according to some experts perhaps years if nothing tried to stop it works. ...

How Bush's DOJ Killed a Criminal Probe Into BP That Threatened to Net Top Officials

'West was the special agent-in-charge at the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Criminal Investigation Division who had been probing alleged crimes committed by BP and the company's senior officials in connection with a March 2006 pipeline rupture at the company's Prudhoe Bay operations in Alaska's North Slope that spilled 267,000 gallons of crude oil across two acres of frozen tundra - the second largest spill in Alaska's history - which went undetected for nearly a week.

West was confident that the thousands of hours he invested into the criminal investigation would result in felony charges against BP and the company's senior executives who received advanced warnings from dozens of employees who worked at its Prudhoe Bay facility that unless immediate steps were taken to repair the severely corroded pipeline, a disaster on par with that of the 1989 Exxon Valdez spill was only a matter of time.'.......

Obama the top recipient of donations from BP

Many people have wondered why its taken Obama so long to respond to the oil spill disaster in the Gulf. Well, now we know.

During the 2008 election cycle, individuals and political action committees associated with BP a Center for Responsive Politics heavy hitter contributed half a million dollars to federal candidates. About 40 percent of these donations went to Democrats. The top recipient of BP-related donations during the 2008 cycle was President Barack Obama himself, who collected $71,000.

BPs Oily Political Connections: From the Bush to Obama Era

Judging from the oily history of the last ten years, reining in BP could prove politically daunting. A company with incredible economic might, BP has enjoyed privileged access to the inner rungs of Washington power. Only by ridding the political system of insider money can we hope to avert future oil disasters like the devastating spill which hit the Gulf of Mexico last week.

Oil tax increase to fund future clean-ups

Responding to the massive BP oil spill, Congress is getting ready to quadruple to 32 cents a barrel a tax on oil used to help finance cleanups. The increase would raise nearly $11 billion over the next decade.

The tax is levied on oil produced in the U.S. or imported from foreign countries. The revenue goes to a fund managed by the Coast Guard to help pay to clean up spills in waterways, such as the Gulf of Mexico....

BP used cheaper casing on oil well to save money, Congress papers show

The explosion on the Deepwater Horizon rig that precipitated the vast Gulf of Mexico oil spill came after the well was capped with a relatively cheap type of casing, BP papers have revealed.

The decision to use the riskier method to finish its Macondo well was taken partly on cost grounds, according to the document. ...

Report: BP had 3 indications of trouble in hour before blast

BP had three indications of trouble aboard the doomed drill rig Deepwater Horizon in the hour before the April 20 explosion that sank the offshore platform, congressional investigators reported Tuesday.

Witnesses reported the well was spurting liquid and pressure tests indicated "a very large abnormality" was occurring aboard the rig, according to a memo released by the House Energy and Commerce Committee on Tuesday afternoon....

Less Toxic Dispersants Lose Out in BP Oil Spill Cleanup

BP PLC continues to stockpile and deploy oil-dispersing chemicals manufactured by a company with which it shares close ties, even though other U.S. EPA-approved alternatives have been shown to be far less toxic and, in some cases, nearly twice as effective.

After the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded and a deepwater well began gushing crude in the Gulf of Mexico three weeks ago, BP quickly marshaled a third of the world's available supply of dispersants, chemicals that break surface oil slicks into microscopic droplets that can sink into the sea.

But the benefits of keeping some oil out of beaches and wetlands carry uncertain costs. Scientists warn that the dispersed oil, as well as the dispersants themselves, might cause long-term harm to marine life....

It's raining oil in Tampa, Florida

This e-mail arrived on Thursday 27 May from one of the participants in the Abundance event:

Just a note to tell you that I left Florida in a hurry Tuesday and am now in Pennsylvania. I got a report that Wednesday afternoon it rained oil in Tampa. They say if you can smell the oil, you're already dead from benzene poisoning. Tens of millions will die because of this. Once the birds and fish are gone, which will be soon, be soon, we'll be gone, too....

Oil Spill = Illuminati's Covert War on America

by Henry Makow

We think of war in terms of missiles and tanks and bombs. But a far superior form of war is to disguise attacks as false flag terrorism like 9-11, natural disaster like Katrina or an accident like the April 20 BP oil spill.

This way the victim is not aware of his attacker, and cannot take countermeasures.

The parallels between the oil spill and Katrina are uncanny. In both cases, the American Gulf coast was attacked, and the Presidential response was deemed tardy and ineffective. In the case of Katrina, the levees were blown up 12 hours after the hurricane had passed.

The "tell" is the failure of the Obama Administration to declare a State of Emergency and take immediate action to stop the gusher....

Is It Raining Oil In Florida? This Is Just The Beginning

As early as May 9 it was announced that FEMA evacuation protocol for forest fires in and around Tampa, Florida could be activated at a moment's notice in the event of the oil slick approaching Florida's coastline. One proposal is to undergo a 'controlled burn' of surface oil in the Gulf to prevent the oil reaching Florida's coast. This would result in highly toxic fumes blowing ashore. In fact, toxic fumes have already been reported elsewhere as Gulf residents complain of breathing difficulties and nausea:

Oil is semi-volatile, which means that it can evaporate into the air and create a heavy vapor that stays near the ground -- in the human breathing zone. When winds whip up oily sea water, the spray contains tiny droplets -- basically a fume -- of oil, which are small enough to be inhaled deep into the lungs. We know that's happening in the Gulf Coast, because people are reporting a heavy oily smell in the air. Already my colleagues in Louisiana are reporting that people in the coastal community of Venice, Louisiana are suffering from nausea, vomiting, headaches, and difficulty breathing....

Oil spill threatens 'total destruction'

28 May 2010

The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico may have apocalyptic consequences, a report by the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources said.

The British Petroleum oil spill is threatening the entire eastern half of the North American continent with "total destruction," reports say.

An ominous report by Russia's Ministry of Natural Resources warned of the impending disaster resulting from the British Petroleum (BP) oil and gas leak in the Gulf of Mexico, calling it the worst environmental catastrophe in all of human history, the European Union Times reported.

Russian scientists believe BP is pumping millions of gallons of Corexit 9500, a chemical dispersal agent, under the Gulf of Mexico waters to hide the full extent of the leak, now estimated to be over 2.9 million gallons a day.

Experts say Corexit 9500 is a solvent four times more toxic than oil.

The agent, scientists believe, has a 2.61ppm toxicity level, and when mixed with the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, its molecules will be able to phase transition.

This transition involves the change of the liquid into a gaseous state, which can be absorbed by clouds. The gas will then be released as toxic rain leading to unimaginable environmental catastrophe destroying all life forms from the bottom of the evolutionary chart to the top, the report said.

Mystery fuel leak seeps into Burrard Inlet, Canada

Oil, gas from Chevron refinery in Burnaby has been flowing for weeks

Chevron Corporation has been trying for weeks to locate the source of a "historic" leak from its Burnaby oil and gas refinery -- a leak that has been seeping still-unknown amounts of oil, gas and diesel fuel into the Burrard Inlet since at least April 21.

Ray Lord, a spokesman for the multinational oil and gas company, said he has no idea how long the seepage from the nearly 70-year-old plant has been happening, but that Chevron first alerted the authorities about the leak on April 21, after discovering the toxic pollutants on the waters and beaches of the Burrard Inlet.

"We've been trying to find a source for a number of weeks now," said Lord.

He believes that the current problem is more likely the result of prolonged oil seepage into the groundwater beneath the refinery which has now found its way into the inlet, rather than the result of an acute rupture or spill....

Nigeria's Agony Dwarfs the Gulf Oil Spill. The US and Europe Ignore It

The Deepwater Horizon disaster caused headlines around the world, yet the people who live in the Niger delta have had to live with environmental catastrophes for decades

We reached the edge of the oil spill near the Nigerian village of Otuegwe after a long hike through cassava plantations. Ahead of us lay swamp. We waded into the warm tropical water and began swimming, cameras and notebooks held above our heads. We could smell the oil long before we saw it - the stench of garage forecourts and rotting vegetation hanging thickly in the air.

The farther we travelled, the more nauseous it became. Soon we were swimming in pools of light Nigerian crude, the best-quality oil in the world. One of the many hundreds of 40-year-old pipelines that crisscross the Niger delta had corroded and spewed oil for several months.

Forest and farmland were now covered in a sheen of greasy oil. Drinking wells were polluted and people were distraught. No one knew how much oil had leaked. "We lost our nets, huts and fishing pots," said Chief Promise, village leader of Otuegwe and our guide. "This is where we fished and farmed. We have lost our forest. We told Shell of the spill within days, but they did nothing for six months."
